Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington and University Chancellor, blessed the Joanne Barkett Conway Memorial Roof Garden atop the new Conway School of Nursing Building on Monday morning.
The garden was named in honor of philanthropist Joanne Barkett Conway the late wife of Bill Conway, who attended the blessing ceremony. The Conways have provided some of the biggest gifts in University history.
The students attending the ceremony were beneficiaries of the William and Joanne Conway Nursing Scholars Program.
The 102,000-square-foot facility hosts the nursing program that bears the Conway name and boasts cutting-edge features, including:
- Multi-functional clinical learning and instructional areas
- Simulation labs for acute care and clinical examination
- Specialized classrooms and laboratories
- An auditorium, study areas, and administrative offices
- A stunning fountain and common areas for relaxation and socializing
