Where Technology Meets Purpose: Catholic University Launches AI Undergraduate and Graduate Programs

In the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, a challenging question emerges: Can technology be developed not just with computational power, but with compassion? The Catholic University of America is answering with a resounding “yes” – taking a pioneering approach to AI education that places human dignity at the heart of technological innovation.

The School of Engineering is accepting applications for the fall of 2025 for the following: 

  • Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence
  • Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence

“At the Catholic University, we go beyond teaching students how to build and use AI systems, we also prepare them to shape its future responsibly,” said Lin-Ching Chang, professor of computer science at the School of Engineering. “Our programs reflect the University’s commitment to research excellence and ethical leadership. The curriculum is designed to push the boundaries of innovation while staying grounded in ethics, ensuring that our graduates are not only skilled engineers but also responsible leaders who understand AI’s impact on society.”

Through research opportunities in our AI labs, with industry partners, and specialized tracks including AI in healthcare, robotics, ethical AI design, and large language models, students will develop the technical expertise and moral wisdom needed to design, implement, manage and lead AI-driven solutions in diverse fields. 

Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI)

The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) provides advanced coursework and hands-on experience in fundamental AI concepts and applications, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and ethics in AI. The program is designed with working professionals and students with backgrounds in computer science, engineering, or related fields in mind.  

  • 30 credit hour program
  • Flexible completion in 3 to 5 semesters (full time or part time study)
  • $1895 per credit hour
  • Coursework tailored to industry needs including deep learning, quantum machine learning, cloud computing, AI for robotics, and more

Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BSAI)

The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BSAI) provides students with a robust foundation in AI principles, including machine learning, neural networks, and data science, while integrating hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and real-world applications. Drawing on the Catholic intellectual tradition, our program examines how AI can serve human dignity and the common good while mastering foundational AI concepts, machine learning algorithms, and advanced programming. 

  • 126 credit hours
  • Comprehensive curriculum in AI and computer science
  • Specialization options in areas such as AI in healthcare, robotics, ethics, and natural language processing
