The Child Protection and Safe Environments certificate program at The Catholic University of America focuses on best practices in child protection from a Catholic perspective, utilizing courses from various schools. Graduates will gain expertise in understanding the dynamics of sexual abuse and exploitation, especially within the Catholic Church, and the history and current practices of safe environment programs. They will learn core principles of trauma-informed services, evaluate policies and interventions for trauma survivors, and understand the roles of criminal and civil legal systems in addressing abuse. This program prepares graduates for roles such as diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinators or Safe Environment Coordinators.
