When Lent begins on Feb. 14 with Ash Wednesday, the Catholic University of America will host opportunities for spiritual engagement and enlightenment. Organizations across campus will mark the season and prepare the community for Easter.
Here is a preview of some of those Masses and events.
On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, there will be services and Masses at the following times and locations:
8:15 a.m. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel
8:45 a.m. Liturgy of the Word in Caldwell Auditorium
12:05 p.m. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel
12:30 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Byron Auditorium (Room 205 in the Law School)
5 p.m. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel (principal sung Mass of the day)
6 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Caldwell Auditorium
10 p.m. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul
Throughout the season there will be various opportunities for students and community members to engage with their faith life.
Liturgical Events
Every Friday, at 5:50 p.m. following the evening Mass, there will be Stations of the Cross in St. Vincent de Paul Chapel. A campus-wide Stations of the Cross will be held on March 25.
Every Sunday at the 11 a.m. Mass, there will be special rites for those receiving sacraments this Easter.
Following the 11:00 a.m. Mass on March 3, there will be a special hour of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by a Eucharistic Procession.
No 4 p.m. Sunday Masses will be celebrated on Feb. 18, Feb. 25, Mar. 10, Mar. 17, and Mar. 31.
Lent Lecture Series
The Office of Campus Ministry and the Busch School of Business will host their first installment of the Lent Lecture Series: “Prayer with Cabrini Pak.” on Feb. 21. It will be the first of three lectures in the Maloney Hall Pavilion held at 5 p.m.
On March 6, the Lent Lecture Series will continue with a “Fasting with Dean Cannizzaro” lecture. The Lent Lecture Series will conclude with “Almsgiving with Mrs. Caroline Bernard Prickel.”
