Garvey Hall is getting ready to welcome the campus community.

Get ready for a tasty new dining experience as the new Garvey Hall opens the morning of Monday, December 5.

Named in honor of former University President John Garvey and his wife, Jeanne Garvey, at the suggestion of an anonymous donor, the building will replace the current “Eatery” in the Edward J. Pryzbyla Center.

The nearly 35,000 square foot building will provide expanded dining space, brand new cooking equipment, and fresher food made in front of guests. While the food stations will be similar to those in the Eatery, there will be many more options for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy. There will be more customizable options for guests with new equipment - such as the hard stone pizza oven and Mongolian grill - engineered to produce better quality food as well

“The key here in this environment is fresh,” said Tim Dunn, regional chef at Chartwells. “It was more difficult to do that (in the Pryz), it’s significantly easier to do that over here.”

The Sweet Shoppe greets diners as they enter Garvey Hall.

“There's a lot more area to do cool, different stuff,” said Dunn. “This is the way all dining halls are going, to where everything is fresh and in front of you.”

The dining room inside Garvey Hall seats hundreds at one time.

The former Eatery will be transformed into a student lounge, performance area, and student offices.
