University President Peter Kilpatrick will host a discussion titled, “The Rights of Women: For Autonomy or Responsibility?” as part of its ongoing Presidential Speaker Series. The Sept. 25 event features renowned scholar Erika Bachiochi, who will engage in a dialogue with President Peter Kilpatrick. This timely conversation will delve into the complexities of women’s rights, reproductive justice, and the ethical implications of autonomy versus responsibility.
Bachiochi, a Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, is widely recognized for her expertise in law, ethics, and Catholic social teaching. Her work addresses pressing societal issues, challenging conventional narratives around women’s rights.
As discussions around women’s rights continue to evolve, this event aims to foster intellectual engagement and critical thinking among attendees. Bachiochi will explore how autonomy and responsibility play crucial roles in shaping public policy and societal norms.
The conversation comes at a pivotal moment when debates over reproductive justice and gender roles are intensifying in public discourse. By examining these themes within a framework of Catholic social teaching, the event seeks to highlight the relevance of faith in navigating complex social issues. President Kilpatrick’s participation will further enrich the dialogue, bringing the University’s mission of integrating faith and reason to the forefront.
“I am very much looking forward to my conversation with special guest Erika Bachiochi, a legal scholar whose work weaves together constitutional law, women’s studies, political theory, and Catholic social thought,” President Kilpatrick said.
Open to the public, this installment of the Presidential Speaker Series invites students, faculty, and community members to engage in these critical discussions. More information and RSVP details can be found here.
