If the Class of 2027 represents the future of The Catholic University of America, it is looking brighter than ever. It is one of the the largest incoming classes in recent years.
"The entire university can be proud of this class, for it could not have been achieved without the effort of the entire community and it is a sign of hope for our future as an institution – bright, diverse, and committed to Catholic education,” said Mark K. Ciolli, Dean of Undergraduate Admission at the University.
The class of first-year students is one of the most ethnically and socioeconomically diverse, as well as academically talented groups in University history.
By the numbers:
Geographically, there was a significant increase in students from New York, Maryland, DC, and Virginia. The Maryland, D.C., and Virginia outcomes in particular are due in large part to increased recruitment initiatives to reflect Catholic’s backyard.
Solid gains were also realized in the South Central markets, especially Texas, and the South Atlantic.
Rising interests: Architecture (53%), Business (16%), and Philosophy (79%) saw the biggest percentage gains in students, with the School of Arts and Sciences additionally performing well.
The average grade point average of the incoming class is an unweighted 3.49. Over 55% of the class has a 3.5 or higher.
The Honors cohort, the most academically talented students with options at elite schools all over the country, increased by 42% with 147 students. Similarly, the Cornerstone program realized a gain of 29% enrolling 93 students in its second year.
