School of Engineering Dean John Judge looked out at the members of The Catholic University of America’s Class of 2027 on Sept. 13 and saw potential.
Dean Judge, the keynote of the annual first-year student convocation ceremony at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, asked, “What are you going to make? What are you going to make of your time here?”
That was the prevailing theme throughout the ceremony, which featured speakers from across the campus. The students were left to ponder the possibilities ahead throughout the convocation.
University President Peter K. Kilpatrick encouraged the students to interact with one another with honesty and love.
“God works in wonderful ways,” the president said.
The ceremony concluded with students receiving University pins, intended as a visual demonstration of their membership in the Catholic University community. Imprinted with the University motto, “Deus Lux Mea Est, “meaning “God is my light.”
