Weather Notice: January 24, 2026

Due to weather conditions forecast for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region starting on Saturday evening, The Catholic University of America campus will be closed Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26. Updates and details are shared below.

Saturday, January 24, 2026: Due to recent weather updates and the modified schedule of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the University will host only two evening Masses on Sunday:

  • 4:00 p.m. – St. Vincent de Paul Chapel (not in the Crypt of the Basilica)
  • 9:00 p.m. – St. Vincent de Paul Chapel

We encourage an exercise of prudence for those deciding to attend at St. Vincent’s or elsewhere. On Friday, Cardinal Robert McElroy, the Archbishop of Washington, issued a decree that individuals are dispensed from the Sunday Mass obligation on these days.

Following our normal weather policy, there will be no daytime Masses (8:15 a.m., 12:05 p.m., 12:30 p.m.) on Monday because of the University closure. Evening Masses (5:10 p.m., 10:00 p.m.) will still be celebrated.

Friday, January 23, 2026: In light of the weather conditions that are forecast for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region starting on Saturday evening, The Catholic University of America campus will be closed Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26. All classes and activities are cancelled.

Facilities Maintenance Operations (FMO) has initiated snow preparations, which include checking equipment, clearing gutters and exterior drains, and, as the storm draws closer, pretreating sidewalks and roadways. If possible, we urge individuals to move their vehicles from exterior parking lots before the snow / ice starts to fall, so that Facilities can clear the parking lots. During the storm, primary roads throughout campus will be cleared to provide access to as many buildings as possible for campus personnel.
