"Say Yes to Everything": Lindsey Jensen Reflects on the Catholic University Experience

When Lindsey Jensen, a senior criminology major from North Kingstown, Rhode Island, was deciding on colleges, The Catholic University of America’s  D.C. location was a compelling factor.

“I knew Washington, D.C. had endless opportunities for me,” Lindsey shared. The University also offered her the ideal blend of academics, professional connections in the criminology field, and meaningful experiences. She completed an internship with her state senator in the U.S. Senate and now for the Department of Homeland Security’s Investigations Unit— one of many opportunities she attributes to the University’s alumni network and supportive faculty. One of her most memorable moments was when she studied abroad at the University’s Rome campus. The semester immersed her in new cultures, fostering friendships and a sense of community among her peers.

“I feel like I found a new appreciation for school, for life, and I learned so many things I wouldn’t have without that program,” she said.

Lindsey is featured with a group of five other Catholic University students. They are all wearing "I (Heart) Roma" shirts.

Back on U.S. soil, Lindsey has continued to make the most of the University’s career-building resources. One professor in particular, Hannah Chesterton, assistant professor of sociology and criminologist, has become a significant mentor. “She’s always willing to help with anything I need, whether it’s something about class, my internship, or just grabbing a coffee to chat,” Lindsey said.

Reflecting on her time on campus, Lindsey describes the community as one filled with love.

“Everybody here is so loving and caring, and everyone truly is rooting for you. Before and after graduation, everyone wants the best for everybody here.” As a campus tour guide, she hopes to inspire future students to feel at home and take advantage of all the University has to offer.

After graduation, Lindsey plans to pursue a master’s degree in cybersecurity, with aspirations of working for a federal agency. Confident that her experiences at Catholic University have set her up for a promising career, she credits her criminology courses and intelligence curriculum for providing a solid foundation for her future in public service.

In her final year, Lindsey has advice for incoming students: embrace all that Catholic University has to offer and “say yes to everything… because it truly changes your time here for the better.”
