The Catholic University of America’s military and veteran engagement and support program is among the top 20% of universities nationwide, according to new rankings released by The Military Times on Nov. 17.
“Commitment to the military community is part of who we are,” Kevin Riley, director of the Catholic University’s Office for Military and Veteran Programs (OMVP), said.
The Best for Vets list included 357 institutions, the largest number ever. The Military Times conducted an extensive survey from colleges across the country. Institutions were evaluated on academic quality, student support services, affordability, and outcomes for veterans – including graduation and retention rates.
OMVP serves all military-connected students at Catholic University. The office provides services, facilitates scholarships, and builds camaraderie and support. This office also helps to coordinate service opportunities as a way to give back to those in need and strengthen the life of the veteran community.
Approximately 250 members of the Catholic University community are military-connected. This includes 180 people who are veterans, active duty, or dependents, as well as 70 students in ROTC.
The University is the only one in the metropolitan region that covers room and board expenses that are not included in ROTC scholarships. The University also covers the financial gap between cost and the G.I. Bill for veterans who enroll as students through participation in the federal Yellow Ribbon Program.
